Taqueria el Gallo Rosa – Kailua Town Shopping Center

Let me just start this review by saying that I was pretty blown away by this place. I normally don’t crave tacos, let alone, want to order more. Taqueria el Gallo Rosa in Kailua Town Shopping Center changed that for me. Looking through these pictures again made me want to go back for lunch as soon as I can. For me, they’re that good. We’re all entitled to our own opinions though, so let’s talk about why this is now my favorite taco place.

Here’s what we ordered:
- Mexican “Elote”
- Chips and Guacamole
- Carne Asada Tacos
- Fried Fish Tacos Baja Style
- Pastor Tacos
Right off the bat, you can tell that this place takes pride in the food that they serve. Everything tasted so fresh and was packed beautifully. After taking my first bite, I was taken aback by the amazing flavor and quality. According to the restaurant’s website, all the tacos and quesadillas are made with gluten-free homemade corn tortillas. In addition, everything is made fresh, from local ingredients whenever possible, and from scratch. For a Mexican place in Hawaii, that’s the kind of dedication that I love to see!

Now, let’s taco ’bout these tacos. I enjoyed eating every single one, but I absolutely loved the fried fish. It’s no surprise to people who know me personally that I’d choose this one, but this fried fish taco, without a doubt, was the best I’ve had. I was a little skeptical about the radish and cabbage at first, but the refreshing crunch that they added was out of this world. As far as the other ones, the carne asada was nice and moist, while the pastor tacos with pineapple surprisingly worked well together.

I love corn, especially corn on the cob. When I saw an elote on the menu, I knew I had to get it. At first glance, it looks pretty plain, but it was full of flavor. The cojita cheese and cilantro tasted great, and with the lime, it was even better.

So, are you itching to try this place out or what? Let me know what you think!
