Brick Oven Pizza – Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center
Brick Oven Pizza is a locally-owned and operated pizza chain with locations on both Kauai and Oahu. I decided to visit the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center location for this blog after my second vaccination appointment at Windward Community College. Because I knew that the second shot’s side effects most likely would make me feel horrible, it only made sense to me to eat something I probably wouldn’t be able to stomach while sick. In fact, I decided to go all-in by eating pizza even though I’m mildly lactose intolerant (thanks Lactaid for helping me make it through).
Upon arrival, my friend and I started looking at the menu displayed on the window outside. Neither of us had ever been to a Brick Oven Pizza location, so we were pleasantly surprised to see lots of local style pupus on the menu as well as sandwiches. When checking in to the restaurant, we were given temperature checks and contact tracing sheets to fill out. In no time, we were seated at our table.
Unable to choose between pupus, pizza, or sandwiches, we decided to get a little of each thing:
- Smoked Meat
- Pupu Pizza with Bacon
- Roast Beef French Dip Sandwich with Cheese
- Meatball Sandwich
Our appetizers arrived at the table quickly. We were pretty shocked at the portion size of the Pupu Pizza – it looked like a regular-sized pizza! We thought it’d be tiny but we were so wrong.

Note: both of these appetizers could have sufficed as our meal, so this place is probably best enjoyed with at least a group of 4!
Now, let’s move on to our sandwiches. I decided on the Roast Beef French Dip and added provolone cheese. I love French dip sandwiches, but I don’t get to eat them often, so I was pretty excited.

Honestly, this sandwich didn’t look like much at first glance, but after dipping it into the au jus and taking a bite, I was really happy. The roast beef was flavorful and the bread was nice and soft.

My friend decided on the Meatball Sandwich and was pleased with how moist the meatballs were. It had just the right amount of sauce without it turning the sandwich into a mushy mess.
Overall, Brick Oven Pizza was a nice and comfortable place to wind down. I’d imagine that they get really busy during after-work hours, so go early!
